Powering Progress: Con J. Franke Electric’s Role in Vacaville’s Well 17 Equipping Project

May 01, 2025

At Con J. Franke Electric, we take pride in providing reliable electrical solutions that support essential community infrastructure. Our work on the Well 17 Equipping Project in Vacaville showcases our ability to lead complex projects with precision and professionalism—bringing power to one of the city’s newest water system upgrades.

This project, which began in February 2022 and is scheduled for completion in August 2025, supports the City of Vacaville’s long-term plan to expand its water system capacity. With an electrical scope valued at approximately $1 million, we’ve been entrusted with powering every component needed to connect this new well site to the city's water distribution system and ensuring residents have consistent, efficient access to clean water for years to come.

Building and Powering a New Water Supply Site

The overall Well 17 Equipping Project involves the construction of a new building, installation of electrical panels, gear, pumps, and chemical distribution systems, along with comprehensive site improvements, piping, and landscaping. Once complete, the site will house everything needed to connect a newly drilled well online and fully integrate it into Vacaville’s water network.

Electrical Scope & Equipment

We’re responsible for the full electrical infrastructure on-site, including:

  • Coordination with PG&E to handle utility connection, metering, and power distribution to the site.
  • Underground power distribution to the new building and site lighting systems.
  • Installation of 7 different power and control panels, supporting all equipment throughout the new facility.
  • Wiring and integration for 13+ field instruments, including connections to pumps, motors, and piping for chemical distribution systems.
  • Standard building electrical features such as interior lighting and power.

Key installed equipment includes:

  • Motor Control Center (MCC)
  • Switchboard (SWB)
  • Communication Panel
  • Remote Meter Panel
  • Video Surveillance Cabinet & Cameras
  • Fluoride Control Panel
  • Generator Connections for emergency power backup

Our electrical systems ensure that every aspect of the well—from pumping to chemical treatment to remote monitoring—is powered, efficient, and up to code.

Collaboration and Team Coordination

Led by Project Manager Dan Simas and Foreman Carl Jenks, this project involves a dedicated team of approximately 12 Con J. Franke Electric professionals, along with support from three subcontractors and several key vendors. Throughout the project, our close coordination with the City of Vacaville staff and the general contractor has been critical to navigating material availability challenges and keeping the schedule on track.

“The city staff and the General Contractor were very cooperative and collaborative in working through material challenges,” said Dan Simas, Project Manager, Con J. Franke Electric

Our proactive approach to planning, problem-solving, and vendor coordination has allowed us to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining our high standards of workmanship and efficiency.

Impacting the Community Through Infrastructure

This project goes beyond construction. It’s about providing a vital public service. Once online, Well 17 will help the City of Vacaville efficiently deliver clean, reliable water to its residents, reinforcing the strength and sustainability of the local water supply system.

At Con J. Franke Electric, we’re honored to play a part in that mission. Whether we’re coordinating power to a new building, installing complex control systems, or supporting local municipalities with long-term solutions, our experienced team shows up with the knowledge, dedication, and commitment that define our work.

Final Thoughts: Built to Last, Powered with Purpose

As we continue toward the completion of the Well 17 Equipping Project, we remain focused on delivering safe, dependable, and forward-thinking electrical systems. This job highlights our ability to collaborate effectively, problem-solve in real time, and provide scalable infrastructure that communities like Vacaville can depend on.

From power panels to pumping systems, we’re proud to energize the work that keeps cities running.
