Building a Greener Future: Powering Stockton’s New Electric Car-Sharing Program

May 15, 2026

At Con J. Franke Electric, we’ve been powering our community for over 100 years. Our latest project—the SJCOG EV Charging Infrastructure Project—is a perfect example of how we’re helping Stockton step into the future.

Partnering with the San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) and the City of Stockton, our goal was simple: make clean, affordable transportation a reality for everyone, especially in neighborhoods that need it most.

What We Built (And Why It Matters)

You might have seen the news lately about Stockton’s new fleet of electric car-sharing vehicles. To get those cars on the road, the city needed a massive "behind-the-scenes" power upgrade. That’s where we came in.

Across several public sites in Stockton, our team installed the heavy-duty electrical systems required to keep these vehicles charged and ready to go. This isn't just about convenience; it’s about meeting new state goals to reduce emissions and providing a reliable way for people to get around without breaking the bank.

The Heavy Lifting Under Your Feet

When you look at a charging station, you see a sleek pedestal. But at Con J. Franke, we know the real "magic" happens underground. A huge part of this project involved complex electrical work that most people will never see:

  • Precision Digging: We used specialized "directional boring" to lay pipes for electrical wires without tearing up the whole neighborhood.
  • Solid Foundations: We poured the concrete pads that hold the equipment steady.
  • Complex Power Systems: Our crews installed the high-voltage panels and wiring that connect the city’s power grid directly to the car chargers.

Teamwork in a Busy City

Doing electrical work in a busy city like Stockton means working around traffic, pedestrians, and open parking lots. Our Project Manager, Antonio Zuniga, and Field Foreman, Dave Sokotowski, led the charge to make sure everything stayed on track.

The biggest hurdle? Dealing with different rules and inspectors at every single site. But thanks to clear communication and over a century of experience, our team kept things moving smoothly, finishing the main work by early 2026 with minimal disruption to your daily commute.

A Century of Service, Still Going Strong

We are incredibly proud that this project was featured in the regional news. It’s a great feeling to see our hard work directly helping a program that makes life better for our neighbors.

Whether it’s a small repair or a city-wide infrastructure project, Con J. Franke stays committed to the same high standards we’ve held since we started. We aren't just installing chargers; we’re delivering the power that moves Stockton forward.
